Eulalie Minfred Banks (1895-1999) was an American illustrator renowned for her work in children’s books. Born in a southeastern suburb of London, England, she embarked on her artistic journey at the tender age of 12, designing Christmas cards. In 1913, Banks published her first picture book, Bobby in Bubbleland. She married Arthur Wilson in 1916, and together, they emigrated to Canada and then the United States. Banks collaborated extensively with the publisher Platt and Munk, creating timeless illustrations for classic children’s books, including nursery rhymes, fairy tales, and folk stories. Her artistic legacy extended beyond the printed page: after her divorce in 1937, she returned to the United Kingdom and later settled in Southern California. There, she adorned various buildings with murals, leaving her mark on the Los Angeles area. Banks passed away in 1999 at the remarkable age of 104, leaving behind a rich artistic heritage that continues to captivate generations of young readers.
