About the Product

Bank Note Cigars, started in Red Lion, Pennsylvania in 1920, were a popular five cent cigar of the 1920’s and 30’s.

On May 18, 1922 the trade journal “Tobacco” wrote “W.C. Frutiger & Co., and the Superior Cigar Co., at Red Lion, manufacture the famous Bank Note cigars. Assuming that each box of these cigars make a bank note for some jobber, some of the jobbers must own banks by this time, considering the daily output of these two concerns. W.C. Frutiger has charge of the sales of W.C. Frutiger & Co., and E.L. Sechrist is sales manager of the Superior Cigar Co. The Bank Note cigar is a 4 & 3/4 inch and 5 inch size, Londres and Perfecto shapes, retailing at 5 cents, with a genuine Sumatra wrapper.”
