A pulp magazine cover from November 1942 about futuristic people from the past waking in a future world that regressed back to the stone age. Robert Gibson Jones (1889-1969) was a prolific pulp artist based in Chicago. Born on October 5, 1889, in Toledo, Ohio, Jones made significant contributions to the world of speculative fiction through his captivating cover illustrations. His artistic journey began as a commercial artist at Vogue Studios in Chicago during the 1920s. However, it was his work for pulp magazines that truly left an indelible mark. Jones painted an impressive 90 covers for Amazing Stories and Fantastic Adventures, both published by the Ziff-Davis Publishing Company. These covers featured otherworldly scenes, daring adventurers, and imaginative landscapes, capturing the essence of science fiction and fantasy. His attention to detail and ability to evoke wonder made his art stand out. Later in the 1950s, Jones continued to contribute to the genre, creating covers for titles like Universe Science Fiction and Other Worlds. His legacy endures as a testament to the power of visual storytelling in the golden age of pulp magazines.
