“Hollywood” is a 1923 American silent comedy film directed by James Cruze and released by Paramount Pictures. Co-written by Frank Condon and Thomas J. Geraghty, the film serves as a lengthier feature follow-up to Paramount’s own short film exposé of itself, “A Trip to Paramountown” from 1922. Although the film is now considered lost, it gained fame for featuring cameos by more than fifty famous Hollywood stars. The plot revolves around Angela Whitaker (played by Hope Drown), a young unknown who arrives in Hollywood with dreams of becoming an actress. Accompanied by her grandfather, Joel Whitaker (Luke Cosgrave), Angela navigates the bustling world of Tinseltown. Despite encountering major movie stars and knocking on casting office doors, Angela faces the challenges of pursuing stardom while leaving her family and hometown behind. The film captures the glamour, humor, and trials of early Hollywood, making it a fascinating glimpse into the golden age of cinema.
