“Metalloids and Their Compounds” is a color plate from the Chemical Atlas; or, The Chemistry of Familiar Objects, authored by American scientific writer, editor, and lecturer Edward Livingston Youmans (1821-1887). This plate, published in 1856, illustrates the compounds of oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon, sulfur, chlorine, and phosphorus. Youmans was a pioneer in popularizing science and founded Popular Science magazine. The book contains a total of 13 plates, each conveying scientific information through vivid illustrations.
