This is a poster for the Salvation Army depicting a woman aiding the destitute. Designed by Frederick Duncan for the United States Salvation Army Home Service Fund Campaign from May 19 26, 1919.

The Salvation Army started work in the United States in 1880 as a charitable Christian organization to offer services to those in need. The Home Service Fund helped with fundraising to be used solely in the United States to help soldiers returning from the war and others in need.

Born in Texarkana, Arkansas, in 1881, Frederick Duncan was a sculptor and painter who had a studio in New York City. He studied at the Art Student’s League with Howard Chandler Christy and George Bridgman.1919/USA
