Alice in Wonderland: The Queen of Hearts by John Tenniel – Art Print
The Queen of Hearts is a fictional character from the 1865 book ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ by Lewis Carroll. The Queen of Hearts is a childish, foul-tempered monarch whom the author describes as “a blind fury”, and who is quick to give death sentences at the slightest offense. One of the most famous lines spoken by the Queen of Hearts is the oft-repeated “Off with their heads!”
Sir John Tenniel (1820-1914) was an English illustrator best remembered for his work in Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ and ‘Through the Looking-Glass.’ He was also known for his regular contributions to the satirical magazine ‘Punch.’
