The skeleton of the building consists of steel girders, the walls being comparatively thin, and inserted like panels in a door. Brick and stone buildings cannot be taken more than 12 to 14 stories high owing to the thickness of the walls required, but steel frame edifices of over 60 stories have been erected in New York.
