Wood’s career began in the early 20th century, where he gained significant attention for his contributions to magazines such as “Punch,” “The Strand Magazine,” and “The Illustrated London News.” He is perhaps best remembered for his creation of the character “Gran’pop,” an elderly chimpanzee who appeared in various humorous situations and became a beloved figure in both children’s books and commercial advertising. Wood’s style was marked by meticulous detail and a playful, anthropomorphic portrayal of animals, which resonated widely with audiences.
