About the Product

Alphonse Maria Mucha (1860-1939) was a Czech Art Nouveau painter. However, he did a great many posters and prints. The period of his work has become known as the Belle Epoque. Here is an advertisement for a brand of cookies, the poster features an attractive young lady with poppies and shafts of wheat in her blond hair. Her left arm extends outwards as she offers the viewer a dish of wafers. The woman’s dress is decorated with a pattern of sickles and wheat, indicating the origin of the product. The company’s stylized initials (LU) are incorporated into the portion of the golden border that protrudes into the picture.
1896/France
