“Composition of Salts” is a color plate from the Chemical Atlas; or, The Chemistry of Familiar Objects, authored by American scientific writer, editor, and lecturer Edward Livingston Youmans (1821-1887). This plate, created in 1856, illustrates the composition of salts. It depicts the structure of acids and salts, as well as the salts of phosphoric acid. Youmans was a pioneer in popularizing science, and he founded Popular Science magazine. The image provides a visual representation of the chemical components and arrangements within salts, contributing to our understanding of chemistry during that era.
