Known as the father of the modern poster, Jules Cheret (1836-1932) was a French painter and lithographer. He worked on everything from theater to advertising. Here advertising the aperitif, Quinquina Dubonnet, Cheret has drawn on one of his compositional standbys: an attractive and fashionably dressed young woman holding a bottle of the advertised product.
