Atelier Bachwitz, operating officially from 1898 to 1958, was an international publishing house based in the Palais des Beaux Arts building at Löwengasse 47 in Vienna’s third district. Founded by Arnold Bachwitz, it produced and distributed fashion designs and lifestyle magazines. Their topical and seasonal journals included The Fashion Designer, Chic Parisien, The Large Mode, The Elegant Woman, The Coming Season, Les Tailleurs Charmants, and Moderne Welt. These publications, printed in multiple languages, reached readers across Europe and beyond. However, in 1938, the rise of National Socialism led to Aryanization, revoking the Bachwitz family’s publishing rights. Despite this, Atelier Bachwitz’s legacy endures as a beacon of creativity and style.
