Dolly Rudeman (born Gustave Adolphine Wilhelmina Rüdemann, 3 February 1902 – 26 January 1980) was a Dutch graphic designer renowned for her iconic posters. She collaborated with some of the most celebrated directors and film stars of her time, including Sergei Eisenstein, Charlie Chaplin, and Greta Garbo1. Born in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia), Rudeman’s artistic journey began with studies in drawing and art. In the 1920s, she illustrated the Dutch release of Eisenstein’s groundbreaking film Battleship Potemkin. Her career flourished during the 1950s, often referred to as her ‘golden age.’ Beyond film posters, she ventured into postcards, chocolate box designs, and ceramics. Despite her remarkable contributions, Rudeman never regained the fame she enjoyed before World War II. She passed away in relative obscurity in Amsterdam in 1980.
